Flappy Bird, the mobile game that took the world by storm in the early 2010s, has resurfaced a decade later. A group calling itself The Flappy Bird Foundation announced plans to release a “new official version” of the game, stating they aim to “re-hatch the Flappy Bird® game.” However, the game’s original creator, Dong Nguyen, quickly denied any involvement in the project.
Dong Nguyen: “I Have No Involvement in This Revival”
This morning, Dong Nguyen made a brief statement on social media, clarifying that he has no connection to the new version of the game. “I did not sell anything,” Nguyen stated, adding, “I also don’t support crypto.”

Nguyen’s comments don’t completely contradict the foundation’s announcement, which described the group as a “team of passionate fans dedicated to sharing the game with the world.” The statement also mentioned that they had “acquired the rights from Gametech Holdings, LLC,” a company that successfully terminated Nguyen’s Flappy Bird trademark a few years ago.
Nguyen Opposes Crypto, But Project Details Remain Unclear
Nguyen’s anti-crypto stance has stirred additional questions about the project. Although Flappy Bird Foundation’s current PR materials don’t mention anything related to cryptocurrency, researcher Varun Biniwale uncovered hidden pages on the foundation’s website referencing Flappy Bird “flying higher than ever on Solana as it soars into Web 3.0.” It remains unclear whether this refers to future features or abandoned plans.
Flappy Bird: The Rise and Fall of a Phenomenon
Released in 2013 as a simple side-scrolling game with retro graphics, Flappy Bird quickly became a viral hit. It topped the download charts on both iOS and Android app stores, but with its success came overwhelming pressure for its creator. In February 2014, Nguyen pulled the game from the app stores, famously stating, “I cannot take this anymore.”
As the debate around Flappy Bird’s comeback unfolds, it’s clear that its original creator has distanced himself from the project and has no interest in engaging with the crypto world. Meanwhile, the foundation’s plans for the game’s future remain a mystery.
