Trademark Application: Hardware and Robotics Investments!
Last Friday, OpenAI filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, detailing consumer electronics products such as headphones, glasses, phone cases, and new hardware such as AI-powered virtual/augmented reality headsets. OpenAI confirmed that it was working on hardware projects with Jony Ive, and CEO Sam Altman said that they were aiming to develop AI-powered consumer hardware. However, Altman noted that it could take several years for such a device to be released. It was also emphasized that OpenAI was also working on humanoid robots, particularly research on user-programmable robots.
Custom AI Chips and Quantum Computing: OpenAI’s Future Plans!
OpenAI also listed its work in the fields of custom AI chips and quantum computing in its trademark application. The company plans to launch custom AI chips with Broadcom and TSMC in 2026. OpenAI is also reportedly making strides in quantum computing, which could provide efficiencies in training AI models. It’s unclear when these plans will become reality though.
